Permanent Work Visas

Everyone wants to know the “best” path to Australian permanent residency. The real answer? It depends on your points, your occupation, your age, and whether you’re willing to commit to living in a specific state for two years.

The Australian government advertises a 65-point minimum for skilled migration. You’ll actually need 85-95+ points for the 189 visa. The 190 visa needs fewer points but requires state nomination and a two-year commitment. The 186 visa bypasses points entirely if your employer sponsors you. Regional provisional visas include Perth and Adelaide. Business investment visas cost millions but skip age limits. And if you’re genuinely exceptional, the National Innovation Visa offers invitation-only PR with no points race.

Before you can apply, you’ll need a positive skills assessment, your occupation on the right occupation lists, and an EOI through SkillSelect. This isn’t about which visa is easiest. It’s about which pathway actually works for your situation.
